In 2012, Hugh died of cancer at age 69. Hugh and his wife, Candace, are frozen, and wake up many years in the future in young and perfectly healthy bodies. Everyone they knew is dead, and they are the subject of fascination of historians. Eventually, Hugh and Candace adapt to life in the technologically advanced utopian future, but they don't adapt in the same way.
