Children Alice and Danny Johnson disappear in the Wisawa cave system. Their father (small-town farmer Stan Johnson), the local sheriff (George Elliott), and two geologists (Dr. Vincent Edwards and Rosemary Bennett) go into the caves to rescue the children. They are horrified to discover that years of underground atomic testing in the caves had transformed one of the bats into a monstrous humanoid bat.
